Welcome to Drumgor Nursery Unit
Drumgor Nursery Unit is a self-contained, two classroom Nursery within Drumgor Primary School, with 52 full-time places. It is a happy and busy Nursery, where we follow the six areas of the Northern Ireland pre-school curriculum through many and varied play experiences and topic work.
Our day begins at 8.50a.m. with free play indoors. The children can choose to play in the water or sand, with dough or construction toys; there are table-top activities, jigsaws, story books and role play in the house corner. We also offer the opportunity to be creative with painting and junk art on offer, as well as lots of craft activities.
During morning play the children help themselves to snack, having a choice of healthy foods such as fruit, toast and yoghurts and a drink of milk or water.
After snack, the children have the opportunity to play outside in our large, enclosed outdoor area. They love to put on their boots and dig in the sand, climb on the climbing frame and go down the slide, pedal trikes, throw balls and run! There is also role play, construction, a story shed and a drawing table. Rain does not stop us as our covered area allows us to go out in all weathers.
Before lunch, we get together in our quiet area for rhymes and songs, talking about the weather, our topic or some road safety.
Lunch is brought to our classroom from the school kitchen, where it is freshly prepared each day.
Afterwards, it is back to the quiet area for a story.
In the afternoon we have another opportunity to go outside or for free play indoors. Home time is at 1.20p.m.
It’s a busy day!
Throughout the year we also have some special events, such seasonal walks, our Christmas performance, trips and visitors to school for drama or music. We learn to care for others, both in our class and through taking part in charity events such as Red Nose Day.
